Daga だが


Conjunction (usually used in written language) meaning : but, however
1. At the beginning of sentence
戦争は終わった。だが多くの命が失われた。
Sensou wa owatta. Daga ooku na inochi ga ushinawareta.
The war is over. However, many people lost their lives.

2. After dictionary, ta-, or nai-form of verb/adjective + no/n
この商品は安いのだが品質良くない。
Kono shouhin wa yasui no daga hinshitsu ga yokunai.
These goods are cheap but the quality is not good.
彼のうちを訪ねたのだが、会えなかった。
Kare no uchi o tazuneta no daga, aenakatta.
I dropped in at his house but I wasn’t able to see him.
高いんだが買わなければならない。
Takai n daga kawanakereba naranai.
It’s expensive but I need to buy it.
面白くなかったんだが最後まで見た。
Omoshiroku nakatta n daga saigo made mita.
Although it wasn’t interesting, I watched it to the end.

3. After (adjectival) noun + na + no/n
彼は誠実なのだが能力が足りない。
Kare wa seijitsu na no daga nouryoku ga tarinai.
He is sincere but lacks the ability.
